P28 - Description

The following description is adapted from the original Pearson 28 brochure distributed with each new boat sold.

THE BOAT:

The new Pearson 28 was the third generation of boats of this size and represented the very latest thinking in design, engineering, and owner preferences. 232 hulls of this model were popped from 1985 through 1988. A quick glance at her 24’ 41/2" waterline length and 9’10" beam dimensions indicate just how spacious she is. Truly, an extremely accommodating 28 footer. The challenge was to use this space to maximum advantage and this is where the Pearson design group carved out new territory. For example, there are two real double berths-one forward and another enclosed stateroom aft to port-they provide desirable privacy while the enclosed head is located further aft than seen at that time, using a wider part of the boat to best advantage.

The galley is located amidships with stove, sink, and stowage to port, and with a large icebox covered by an equally large chart table/counter to starboard. For a smaller boat, this is a superior arrangement as it maximizes gale work space and icebox volume.

The 28’s sailing qualities are superb. Of particular note is her ability to stand up to a breeze due mainly to the form stability produced by her wide beam at the waterline. Pearson set to out to design a performance cruiser/racer and form all appearances, they succeeded. Pearson was keenly aware that some of the finest sailing areas aren’t very deep. So they offer the 28 in the shoal draft version that draws only 3’6".

To summarize, the 28 is what you’ve come to expect from Pearson. She is uniquely different and in the opinion of the Pearson design group, it was just right for the requirements sailors sought at the time, namely, quality excellent sailing characteristics, sea-kindly motion, spaciousness, and privacy. Come Sail with us.
