The top plate is attached with four 1/2" bolts that thread into the angle brackets. These fasten the plate down and act as alignment pins for the top plate to slide on. The plug for the mast to sit over is fastened from the bottom with four 5/16 countersunk bolts. This photo shows the mast step plate in it's aft position.
